Stroke is the #5 cause of death and the #1 cause of disability. Stoke happens in the brain but is a disease of the vessels, which is why hypertension, cholesterol, and diabetes (which all damage the vessels) are risk factors. Our stroke prevention clinic treats former stroke survivors and those at risk for stroke. Our NPs are trained as specialists in hypertension management, cholesterol (Lipid Management), anticoagulation for post-stroke, smoking cessation, and routine diabetes screening. Post-stroke care includes close follow-up with experienced neurology practitioners, appropriate imaging, cognitive evaluation and monitoring, behavioral/ depression evaluations, monitoring of chronic disease, collaboration with rehabilitation programs, and caregiver support.
